The “Too Big” Heel Is This Season’s Most Unexpected Shoe Trend
['Alexandre Marain']
Vogue UK
Not long ago, while scrolling on Instagram, I came across a series of images that were as intriguing as they were unusual: someone’s feet in a pair of heels that were clearly too big.
Finally, I thought, a trend that feels just as nostalgic as, say, flip-flops or jelly shoes, but one that hasn’t yet been talked about to death.
Instagram contentThe photos came courtesy of Alara Kocman, a recent fashion design graduate from the University of Applied Arts Vienna, whose final collection served as an ode to childhood innocence.
Titled Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, it featured extra-long pearl necklaces, swamping trench coats and scribbled-on nightgowns, as if the designer was surveying adulthood through a child’s eyes.
Sure enough, the shoes anchoring those looks brought back memories of slipping my own feet into my mother’s stilettos, the soles scraping across the hardwood floor, toes twinkling inside them.
