Twyford Waterworks is inviting people to see how drinking water has been supplied for 125 years on Sunday, August 2. (Image: Matthew Feldwick/The Twyford Waterworks Trust)The five-acre site includes demonstrations and displays featuring the Hathorn Davey steam pumping engine and boilers, and over 90-year-old Ruston diesel pumping engines. Visitors can also see the Lime Kilns and Water Softening Works where original water-powered machinery still operates. The waterworks is also home to a nature trail through rare chalk grassland, a pond and a hide, offering the chance to spot birds, insects and wildflowers. Due to the steep natural slope of the site, the kilns, industrial railway, and nature trail are accessed by steps.
