The Southern Area Planning Committee approved the scheme, off Upton Lane near Grove Place, at Crosfield Hall on Tuesday, July 21.
Case officer Tim Parker said Natural England had not objected to the council's habitats regulations assessment.
Mr Parker said the site is beside Grade I and II listed buildings, newer development and Casa Aquila farmhouse, which has historic links to Grove Place.
Committee chair Cllr Mark Cooper said early elevation drawings looked "rather bland", but revised colour visuals reflecting conservation officer changes showed a far better scheme.
After unanimously voting to grant permission, the committee delegated the final wording of conditions to the council's director of planning and development.
