The Health Department has also repaired leaks in more than 2,500 drinking water pipelines as part of efforts to maintain water quality and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks during the rainy season.
Health Department officials said that the measures are being carried out considering the possibility of an increase in water-borne and vector-borne diseases during the monsoon.
The civic area also witnessed testing of 73,858 water samples, while more than 5.46 lakh chlorine tablets were distributed to support water safety measures.
In Surat Municipal Corporation limits, more than 12.85 lakh chlorine tablets and over 3.11 lakh ORS packets were distributed as part of public health measures.
The Health Department has appealed to citizens to consume boiled or chlorinated safe drinking water during the monsoon to prevent infections.
