The Rajasthan Health Department on Monday advised people to use new needles, fresh ink, and properly sterilised equipment while getting tattoos to help prevent Hepatitis B and C infections. The advisory was issued on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day as the state intensified efforts to eliminate Hepatitis C by 2030 under the National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme (NVHCP). Rathore added that Hepatitis B vaccination is being administered to healthcare workers and other high-risk groups. NHM Mission Director Jogaram said newborns should receive the Hepatitis B vaccine within 24 hours of birth to protect them from infection. In cases where the mother tests positive for Hepatitis B, the newborn should also be given Hepatitis B Immunoglobulin (HBIG) immediately after birth for additional protection.
