The New York Islanders would almost certainly have interest if Kirill Marchenko becomes available. For the Islanders, the question is, does it make sense to go after this type of a player at this time? Acquiring Marchenko would almost certainly require the Islanders to reverse some of that progress. Marchenko would undoubtedly improve the Islanders today, but the acquisition would also increase expectations to win immediately while thinning an improved prospect system. For the Islanders, preserving organizational depth may ultimately outweigh the appeal of adding another proven scorer, even one with Marchenko's upside.
