London North Eastern Railway (LNER) has announced that it is to run special trains away from its usual route during planned engineering work next month.
Work to deliver the East Coast Digital Programme will take place on Sunday 30 August, and no LNER trains will be able to operate between Peterborough and London King’s Cross.
The trains will run in addition to existing LNER services planned to operate on the day.
It has also tested running Azuma trains into London St Pancras station, but needs to do more work to make this feasible.
If they prove successful, LNER hopes that it will be able to run similar diverted trains during future line closures.
