Plan to demolish McKenna's Bar on Crumlin Road to build studios and apartmentsAn application has been lodged to demolish a former public house in north Belfast to make way for a four storey apartment building. Laurence McDaid of Shorts Visits Ltd wants to knock down the former McKenna’s Public House, 903 Crumlin Road, in the Ballysillan area. The aim is to accommodate “young professionals, key workers, first-time buyers and downsizers”. “Its architectural form, characterised by a flat roof, irregular floor levels and fragmented internal arrangement, contrasts unfavourably with the predominantly Victorian and Edwardian built form that defines this section of the Crumlin Road. “The development broadens the range of housing available within the local area and responds to the growing demand for compact, professionally designed urban homes.”
