Alex Kane is an Irish News columnist and political commentator and a former director of communications for the Ulster Unionist Party. Most worryingly of all, of course, is that it now represents just over a third of the total unionist vote. Crucially, though, I’m pretty sure the TUV doesn’t trust either the UUP or DUP enough to do a three-party deal. We’re at what I’m going to describe as a ‘unionism stands at the crossroads’ moment. Whichever way it goes brings difficulty: a difficulty amplified by the fact there’s no towering figure within the leadership ranks.
