Visakhapatnam: Civil Aviation Department has announced the suspension of scheduled commercial flight services from Visakhapatnam Airport (INS Dega Civil Enclave) from 1 pm on August 17. This comes as flight operations are set to commence from the newly built Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district. According to an official notification, scheduled commercial flights from the existing Visakhapatnam Airport will remain suspended for the next 30 years. The Centre has also announced that the international airport code 'VTZ', currently assigned to Visakhapatnam Airport, will be transferred to the Bhogapuram airport from August 17. In a separate development, the Civil Aviation Department on Tuesday issued a gazette notification officially naming the Bhogapuram airport, developed by GMR under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, as Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport.
