From classrooms to careers, Hyderabad’s Swayamkrushi has been empowering lives for over 3 decadesHyderabad: There was a time when parents of children with intellectual disabilities were often told to lower their expectations. Swayamkrushi’s mission for persons with intellectual disabilitiesOver the past three-and-a-half decades, Swayamkrushi has emerged as one of the country’s pioneering organisations working with persons with intellectual disabilities. “What we strive for is to equip persons with intellectual disabilities with the skills, knowledge and support they need to live fulfilling lives,” said founder-director Manjula Kalyan. According to Manjula Kalyan, Swayamkrushi alumni are working across the United States, with dozens employed in cities such as Atlanta and others spread across South Carolina and Mississippi. After empowering around 250 persons with intellectual disabilities over the years, Swayamkrushi is planning its next phase of expansion.
