Malta’s unemployment rate rose to 3.5% in June 2026, marking an increase from 2.6% recorded during the same month last year, according to the latest official figures. The number of unemployed people stood at 12,146 in June. While that was slightly lower than the 12,408 recorded in May, it represents a 36.2% increase compared to June 2025, pointing to a softer labour market than a year ago. The largest share of unemployed people fell within the 25 to 74 age group, accounting for 9,336 people, or nearly 77% of the total.
