Every member of Malta’s Civil Protection Department has now obtained the internationally recognised NFPA 1001 firefighting certification, marking a milestone for the country’s emergency services. The qualification is recognised worldwide and certifies that firefighters have met international standards in training, competence and operational safety. Bedingfield said the certification reflects years of investment in firefighters, training, equipment and technology, adding that the government remains committed to ensuring the department has the resources needed to respond effectively to emergencies. The minister also thanked firefighters for their work during the recent heatwave, which saw crews respond to a number of fires and other emergencies across Malta. During the visit, Bedingfield also highlighted a recent World Bank report that praised the Civil Protection Department’s professionalism, specialised capabilities and coordination with other first responders.
