Seven fresh deaths have pushed Assam's flood toll to 75, with the state announcing enhanced compensation, cash relief and education support for affected families.
The floods continue to batter seven districts, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Kamrup (Metropolitan), while large parts of the state remain inundated.
Amid the worsening situation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced an expanded relief package to support both bereaved families and those displaced by the floods.
Families of people who remain missing for more than 30 days will also be eligible for Rs 4 lakh ex gratia.
Relief measures have also been extended to beneficiaries of the Orunodoi scheme.
