A Labour minister has demanded that Union flags in her constituency be taken down. Sarah Sackman, the courts minister, said some of her Finchley and Golders Green constituents had objected to Union and St George's flags being placed on public lamp-posts. She called on Barnet borough council, her local authority, to take action, saying residents had described the flags as "unsettling, intimidating and othering". The council added: "The council does not fly flags from its lamp-posts because they are not designed to hold them safely.
