Guterres to Convene New Cyprus Talks on Path Forward

Μake us preferred on GoogleUnited Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said Wednesday that he plans to convene a new multi-party meeting aimed at determining the next steps toward resolving the decades-long division of Cyprus.
Speaking to reporters in the divided capital of Nicosia, Guterres said the meeting would seek to define a path forward in efforts to address a conflict that has remained unresolved for more than half a century.
“I decided that I would convene another five-plus-one meeting, after adequate preparations on confidence building, methodology and substance,” Guterres said.
Guarantor Powers to ParticipateThe planned “five-plus-one” meeting will bring together the two sides in Cyprus along with Greece, Britain, and Turkey, the three guarantor powers of Cyprus’ independence.
Guterres said the meeting will take place after sufficient preparations have been made on confidence-building measures, methodology, and substantive issues to support discussions on the island’s future.
