Measles cases have hit a record high in the United States since the virus was declared eliminated in 2000. North Dakota is one of 45 states with confirmed measles cases. In North Dakota, 20 of the 38 cases are for children 10 years old or younger. Ninety percent of kindergartners received the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine during the 2024-25 school year in North Dakota, down from 94.8% in the 2019-2020 school year. Students in North Dakota are required to get the MMR vaccine, although there are exemptions for religion or medical issues.
