FARGO — Fargo is saying goodbye to a history-making official with nearly four decades of experience serving the city. Brenda Derrig started as an intern with the city’s Civil Engineering Department in 1989 and is now ending her career as the assistant city administrator. ADVERTISEMENT"Forever, I will have a fingerprint on the city," Derrig said. Derrig was a college student working toward a civil engineering degree when her cousin, who had interned with the city of Fargo, suggested interning with the city’s Engineering Department. "I worked my way up here at the city," Derrig said of her progression from an entry-level civil engineer to a civil engineer II to a senior engineer, a division head and then City Engineer for three years before the assistant city administrator role.
