This Saturday, 1st of August, Friends of York Walls is offering visitors to Fishergate Postern Tower the chance to sow wildflower seeds to take home.
This is part of a city-wide event aimed at showing the harmony between archaeology and nature through creating wildflower sanctuaries on York's wall ramparts.
Visitors will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the August-blooming wildflowers, sowing their chosen seed in a recycled-newspaper-made pot for their own gardens.
Visitors can view historic prints depicting the archaeology of the walls, which were originally constructed on arches due to the wet ground.
Visitors will also be able to visit Fishergate Postern Tower and see the original spiral staircase and medieval toilet.
