Special Olympics in urgent need of volunteersBy ANNA SMITH Local Journalism Initiative on July 29, 2026.
Share this story:With the opening ceremonies of the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games less than two weeks away, organizers are making one last major push for volunteers.
Games chair Natalie Sauer says organizers are still looking for 100-200 more people willing to take on volunteer shifts in order to help the games run smoothly.
This close to a soft deadline for volunteering of Aug. 7, those interested are encouraged to visit the team at their office at Medicine Hat College, so they can be helped through the necessary training and signed up for shifts easily.
This is a chance for Medicine Hat to show the country as a whole the kind of people who live here, said Sauer, as athletes, coaches, and visitors will be coming from across Canada.
