Cameroon has launched the procurement process for its share of the Douala-Bangui Economic Corridor Development Program (PACE-DB), marking the first operational step in a regional infrastructure initiative designed to improve trade between Cameroon and the Central African Republic. The funding applies only to Cameroon's component of the project, which project documents value at $425 million. It should not be confused with the overall regional program, whose total cost is estimated at $1.12 billion, or roughly CFA646 billion. These obstacles increase the cost of goods shipped to the Central African Republic, slow trade flows and undermine Cameroon's logistics competitiveness. For Cheick Kanté, a division director at the World Bank, the project goes beyond road rehabilitation.
