Work is under way on a programme of rail infrastructure improvements during London's Charing Cross blockade, with teams from Southern Renewals Enterprise (SRE), Network Rail and their supply chain partners working around the clock between 26 July and 16 August. The blockade forms part of a wider investment programme across Charing Cross and Waterloo East stations. As SRE’s buildings and civils partner, VolkerFitzpatrick is undertaking a platform transformation at Charing Cross station. Alongside the platform works, VolkerFitzpatrick is carrying out grit blasting and repainting works to Hungerford Bridge, as well as refurbishment works at Waterloo East station. VolkerFitzpatrick operations director Michael Sheridan said: “This blockade provides a generational opportunity to deliver major improvements across Charing Cross, Hungerford Bridge and Waterloo East in a single programme of works.
