Charleston is hosting the UK’s first major showcase in more than 25 years of the work of Roger Fry, the influential 20th-century artist, art critic and curator best known for introducing post-impressionist art to the British public. Nathaniel Hepburn, director of Charleston, said: "Charleston is uniquely placed to present Roger Fry as an artist, the role that Fry considered his most important. Despite his impact as a tastemaker, Fry’s paintings have rarely been exhibited in depth. The Charleston exhibition brings together vibrant portraits, landscapes and interiors from Fry’s body of work, including pieces from private collections that have never been shown publicly. Roger Fry is part of Charleston’s research-driven exhibition series, informed by their work on the emerging Bloomsbury Network.
