Reform Wales shadow transport minister Jason O'Connell said new population figures showing Newport is the fastest-growing city in Wales prove the case for an M4 Relief Road is stronger than ever.
According to the Office for National Statistics, Newport’s population has risen from around 145,700 in 2011 to almost 168,000 in 2024, placing increasing pressure on existing infrastructure.
Jason O'Connell (Image: Submitted)Mr O'Connell said: "These figures confirm what drivers already know, Newport has outgrown the M4.
"The Brynglas Tunnels have become one of the biggest transport bottlenecks in Britain, holding back commuters, businesses, and economic growth.
"Previous Welsh Government's assessments showed an M4 Relief Road could deliver billions of pounds in economic benefits."
