The TrovrQUBE, a smart, self-service recycling unit for PET plastic bottles and aluminium cans, is the first of its kind at a UK educational institution.
The technology aims to help students and staff develop recycling habits ahead of the UK’s Deposit Return Scheme (DRS), which launches in October 2027.
The pilot scheme at the Kings Road campus is designed to raise awareness, reduce waste and familiarise the college community with the deposit return process.
"Educational settings have an important role to play in preparing communities for the Deposit Return Scheme and helping establish the recycling habits that will support its long-term success."
The UK’s DRS will require a 20p deposit on eligible drinks containers, refundable upon return to registered return points.
