Image Credit: DP WorldLogistics firm DP World will introduce shore power at its Constanta South Container Terminal in Romania as part of a €100 million electrification programme.
The project will replace diesel-powered equipment with electric alternatives and install shore power infrastructure, allowing vessels to connect to the port's electricity grid while alongside.
Shore power enables vessels to meet their electricity needs from the onshore grid while alongside, reducing the need to run auxiliary engines in port.
DP World said the upgrades will improve air quality, reduce noise and lower CO2 emissions by more than 6,000 tonnes annually.
