MHCLG confirmed it intends to make regulations “this summer” to increase planning fees to 90% of full estimated costs. The increases in the national fee schedule are not likely to affect the pipeline of applications for major sites or householder applications. Whitehall’s ability to act promptly will soon cease to be a drag on planning fee income. Setting the national fees at 90% simply guarantees more councils will set fees locally. The move to localised planning fees is welcome, but we need the same approach for all fees for services provided by councils.
