Extreme heat warnings issued as 'bleeding' roads closed

"Summer bleed" creates a "slick" road surface that increases the risk of vehicles losing control and skidding.
"The recent period of hot weather has resulted in some sections of the road network experiencing road surface ‘bleeding’, where the bitumen within the road softens and rises to the surface," said a Herefordshire Council spokesperson.
One of the main closures is on Stone Street in Madley, which will be shut for works from July 29 to 31.
The council has asked all road users to follow signage and drive carefully.
The council said: "We would ask all road users to follow any signed traffic management, drive according to the conditions and reduce speed if road surfaces appear unusually shiny or affected by the heat.
