By Patrick BiddahGovernment will soon establish a Consular Fund through a public-private partnership to strengthen assistance for Ghanaian nationals facing emergencies abroad, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced.
He explained that the scale of humanitarian interventions undertaken since the beginning of 2025 had exposed the need for a sustainable financing mechanism to support Ghanaians requiring urgent assistance overseas.
According to him, effective consular protection often demands immediate funding for emergency travel arrangements, temporary accommodation, medical assistance, welfare support and where necessary, repatriation or evacuation.
“It is against this background that we will soon be launching a public-private partnership for the Consular Fund to be established,” Mr. Ablakwa said.
“This Consular Fund will strengthen the Ministry’s capacity to provide the necessary timely assistance to Ghanaian nationals confronted with genuine emergencies abroad.”
