Gold Fields also highlighted its economic impact, describing the Tarkwa Mine as one of Ghana’s most significant mining assets. Gold Fields noted that the Government of Ghana also benefits from dividends through its 10 per cent free-carried equity interest in the mine. Responding to concerns over community development, the company said the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has invested more than US$110 million in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, enterprise development, environmental conservation, water and sanitation projects in its host communities. It said it would continue engaging government while maintaining open and respectful dialogue with traditional authorities, employees, host communities and other stakeholders. Gold Fields reaffirmed its commitment to Ghana, the Tarkwa Mine and the host communities that have supported its operations for more than three decades.
