X marks the flop (Microsoft)An insider claims the Xbox Series X/S is still selling at a significant loss, and the August price hike still won’t push it into profit.
However, with the current generation, the memory shortage has hiked up component prices, leading to a wave of console price increases to keep profits steady.
According to Windows Central, Microsoft is losing ‘around $150 (£112) per Xbox Series X/S sold recently due to memory price increases’.
Although Sony and Nintendo are happy to report their console sales, Microsoft stopped doing so early in the Xbox One (because they were embarrassingly bad) so the Xbox Series X/S figure below is only an estimate.
The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S were released in 2020, while the Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025.
