A devastating early morning fire has ripped through the Imizamo Yethu informal settlement in Hout Bay, destroying dozens of homes and leaving hundreds of residents without shelter as emergency teams race to assist, Cape {town} Etc reports.
According to the City of Cape Town, an initial assessment indicates that approximately 60 informal structures were destroyed.
Relief organisation Gift of the Givers was among the first responders to arrive, with teams assessing the needs of affected families alongside disaster management officials.
‘Emergency relief, including food, blankets, clothing, hygiene items, and other essential humanitarian aid, will be provided to support those impacted by this tragic incident.’
‘A big thank you to our City firefighters who battled the blaze under challenging conditions with six fire engines and four water tankers on site at the blaze.’
