In the heart of Marshall’s New Town community, preservation is about more than just maintaining historical sites — it’s about protecting a legacy.
For more than two decades, The New Town Neighborhood Association has carried that torch, leading beautification efforts and restoring pride while ensuring the predominantly Black historical community continues to thrive.
BackgroundThe neighborhood was named in tribute to the former New Town School which, records show, was organized in 1913 and built in 1916.
“The support isn’t just a financial contribution; it’s a vote of confidence in the work the New Town Neighborhood Association does for a clean, well-maintained neighborhood and supporting our senior citizens and disabled residents,” Calhoun said, thanking Republic.
This year we presented ‘Good Neighbors’ certificates,” Calhoun said, noting the award highlighted residents or groups who demonstrated positive examples of neighborly acts of love and service in the New Town community.
