The Logical Indian
Stronger Safeguards ProposedThe amended Bill substantially raises the legal consequences for organised examination fraud, reflecting the Centre’s response to growing public concern following the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and nationwide student protests.
Opposition members insisted that the Bill could not be viewed separately from the alleged NEET-UG paper leak, the police response to student protests, and demands for accountability from the government.
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also criticised the handling of student demonstrations, questioning whether peaceful protesters had been treated fairly and seeking greater accountability over the alleged paper leak.
The amendments come after weeks of nationwide protests in which students demanded transparent investigations, cancellation of compromised examinations, action against organised paper leak syndicates, and reforms to restore credibility in India’s examination system.
With the Lok Sabha having approved the legislation, the Bill will now move to the Rajya Sabha, where its provisions will be debated before it can receive parliamentary approval.
