When Bowers announced the 800 Series Diamond D5, we knew that it was likely to sound fairly phenomenal. When I totted up the audio equipment backing up the speakers I listened to (and there were many speakers), online retail links suggested that it was comfortably another £250,000 worth of kit. Still, seeing the new speakers up close was a great way to appreciate some of the design changes. Bowers & Wilkins is far from the only brand making very expensive speakers that sound terrific, after all, but its sound signature is clearly popular in mixing studios and with artists. Having now had the opportunity to luxuriate in it myself, I can see why – if I had £50,000 to lob on a couple of floor-standing speakers, I'd have them high up my list moving forward.
