After a goalless first half, Malawi took the lead in the 73rd minute through Temwa Chawinga. The Super Falcons responded in stoppage time when captain Rasheedat Ajibade converted a penalty in the 90+2nd minute to cut the deficit and give Nigeria hope. However, Temwa Chawinga struck again three minutes later to make it 3-1 and restore Malawi’s two-goal lead. Substitute Uchenna Kanu pulled another goal back for Nigeria in the 90+9th minute, but it proved too late as Malawi held on to seal a famous 3-2 win.
