This summer has shown once again that the climate crisis isn't a distant threat; it's affecting communities like ours right now. At the same time, Shell has announced vast quarterly profits while continuing to invest in new oil and gas projects. It's hard to ignore the contrast: communities are dealing with the impacts of a warming climate while one of the world's biggest fossil fuel companies continues to profit. This probably will not affect me, but I want my grandchildren to grow up in a safe environment, not a planet that has been cooked merely to satisfy greedy fossil fuel organisations. I'm calling on Sadik Al-Hassan to support policies that accelerate the UK's transition to renewable energy, rather than allowing continued expansion of oil and gas.
