He was already subject to a suspended sentence when he committed the offences. He pleaded guilty in January to assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) over that incident. Regarding that assault, he again pleaded guilty in January to a second ABH charge – but pleaded not guilty to a charge of intentional strangulation. Recorder Peter Clark activated Dowson’s previous 12-month suspended sentence, then imposed additional jail time for the new offences. He jailed him for three months on the first ABH, ten months consecutive on the second, then eight months consecutive on the strangulation.
