Finland is on full alert. A small nation of 5.5 million people, it is nonetheless well prepared and ready to fight for its independence. Key to its preparedness is the national will and the whole of the society’s compact and commitment to remain a free and cohesive people. This commitment involves close cooperation among government, businesses, civil organisations, education and training institutions to a defence strategy. Beneath the streets of the capital city, Helsinki, is a labyrinth of 5,500+ bunkers, capable of shielding the capital’s entire population of 675,000 from any nuclear, chemical or biological attack.
