BodyThe Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has called a special meeting for Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 4:30 p.m. for two purposes – including one that must make history in one way or another. At Wednesday's meeting, the board will accept and install the Cherokee County Republican Party Executive Commitee nominee Jan Griggs to fill the vacant District 5 seat on the Board of Commissioners. All other members – Sue Ledford, Jeana Conley, Mark Stiles and, starting next week, Jan Griggs – filled mid-term vacancies following recommendations from the Cherokee County Republican Party Executive Committee. Griggs previously represented District 5 on the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners from 2020 through 2024 and served as vice chair during part of her term. Griggs later worked in the Cherokee County Veterans Service Office and has remained active in local veterans’ programs and community projects.
