Source: Ara Institute of CanterburyA vibrant ava ceremony and the words “we did it” marked the launch of a new Pacific Culture and Health course at Ara Institute of Canterbury. Developed through extensive collaboration with Pacific community leaders, health practitioners and sector partners, the Level 5 course aims to prepare graduates to work more effectively alongside Pacific peoples and communities. Senior Academic Helen Marshall said the need for the course emerged during a programme review and discussions with Pacific community and industry representatives. “When we started these conversations at the end of 2024, the need for a first-year Pacific course came through loud and clear.” Marshall said the programme would help equip graduates with the cultural understanding needed to work effectively in diverse communities.
