The Nairobi County Assembly has allocated Ksh 20 million in its 2026/27 financial year budget to construct a monument and statue honoring the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. The allocation follows the adoption of the 40th Report of the Select Committee on County Finance, Budget and Appropriations regarding the 2026/27 Revenue and Expenditure Estimates. This budgetary provision fulfills a special motion approved by the Assembly, sponsored by Nairobi West MCA John Rex Omolleh (ODM), which sought a permanent monument to honor Odinga after his passing in October 2025. Monument site moved from Uhuru ParkFollowing an amendment to Omolleh’s original proposal to place the structure in Uhuru Park, the monument will now stand at the Supreme Court Roundabout along City Hall Way. “The late Raila Odinga deserves a special place in the annals of history as recognition for his outstanding sacrifice and service to the public,” Omolleh told the Assembly.
