SAMOA has launched an education management information system aimed at giving officials real-time data on students, teachers and schools. The Samoa Education Management Information System, or SEMIS, was rolled out with support from the Pacific Community’s Educational Quality and Assessment Programme, or EQAP, as part of a wider regional push to strengthen education data systems across the Pacific. “SEMIS is Samoa’s version of PacSIMS-EMIS, tailored to the country’s education system and local context,” he said. “Like a well-charted ocean map, the Samoa EMIS brings together the essential information needed to guide the education system. The launch comes as Pacific nations seek to improve schooling through the Pacific Regional Education Framework, known as PacREF, which includes education management information system development and data analysis support in its rolling plan.
