Student Strikers Stage Sit-In For Education

Press Release – Education Action GroupThe strike, which was organised by Education Action Group 26 (EAG26), centred on seven demands.
On Wednesday 29th July, 250 of Dunedin’s students staged a sit-in at the University of Otago’s St David’s complex in protest of the ongoing cuts to tertiary education.
This action was the high point of the student strike for education.

In addition to (1) fee free education, students called on present and future governments for (2) funding above inflation, (3) a universal student allowance, and (4) independent student unions, via the repeal of voluntary student membership.
