Out of the 22 First and Second World War heroes resting there, Steve personally tends to 21 of them. He even puts out fresh water for the local magpies to keep them from disturbing the stones. Yet instead of rolling out the red carpet for local heroes like Steve, the bureaucratic system too often makes their lives harder. Meanwhile, Steve has had to fight tooth and nail just to get basic dog waste bins and warning signs installed to stop people letting their dogs foul near our war heroes.
