The music was gently lilting and reminiscent of childhood landscapes in rural Yorkshire in a bygone time. From here we were whisked off to the American Civil War and Max Steiner’s Suite from Gone with the Wind. Continuing the cinematic theme, we were given You’re Welcome from Moana by Lin-Manuel Miranda and ably sung by Nathan Stubbings. The themes of familiar songs woven into an orchestral fabric were masterfully judged and played by the conductor and orchestra. The second half kicked off with Souza’s March; Washington Post, an irresistible foot-tapping, hand-clapping favourite.
