Lerwick’s new walk-in GP clinic saw an average of just over 50 patients per weekend during its first two months, official data shows.
Public Health Scotland figures released on Tuesday show the Grantfield facility saw 465 patients during the nine weekends throughout May and June.
They were designed to provide patients with more choice while helping to relieve pressure on NHS services.
However, the RCGP said they reinforced its view that walk-in centres “will not meaningfully increase the capacity of general practice to meet the needs of the population”.
RCGP Scotland chairman Chris Provan said the figures showed that walk-in clinics saw fewer patients on average than GPs working in standard practices.
