Swardeston Day Centre, formerly known as the Edith Cavell Day Centre, was opened in March 1986 with just 14 members. This was quickly taken up by the local vicar, who formed a steering committee and recruited volunteers. The centre is supported by a dedicated team of volunteers, one of whom has been with the centre since its inception, and a cook was employed in 2006.
