Kankawa Nagarra, a Walmatjarri elder from the Kimberley region of north-west Australia, will appear at the Glad Cafe on August 5. Nagarra didn’t own a guitar until she was 40, yet her late-blooming musical journey has earned her critical acclaim. Her winning album Wirlmarni was recorded outdoors on her own Country and features a mix of musical styles and four Indigenous languages. As part of the tour, Hanlon will perform a solo set, lead a Q&A with Nagarra about her life and music, and accompany her on electric guitar during her performance.
