At least 13 people are dead after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake rocked Japan’s southern main island of Kyushu on July 28, causing the collapse of part of a shopping center. At a nearby paper plant, seven workers remain unaccounted for after a chimney fell, and four others suffered serious injuries there. Dozens of people are missing or injured in the southern Kumamoto Prefecture, and a tsunami advisory was issued but lifted shortly after. Local news outlets reported that at least 40 people were injured, and about 50 more were taken to a hospital nearby. Forces Japan said they were aware of the earthquake and were in touch with partners in the Japan Self-Defense Forces.
